Daniel Black has been with Stowell Crayk, PLLC, since February 2014, specializing in Immigration Law and Criminal Defense. He earned his law degree from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law in May 2014 and was admitted to the Utah Bar in October 2014.

During law school, Black gained experience while interning at the Salt Lake Legal Defenders Association, clerking for U.S. Magistrate Judge Dustin Pead at the U.S. District Court of Utah, and serving as a judicial intern at the Salt Lake Immigration Court. He was named the 2013 Utah Pro Bono Student of the Year and was active in both the Student Bar Association and the ASUU Supreme Court.

Since 2013, Black has handled criminal defense cases, developing strong skills in criminal defense motion practice, evidentiary hearings, and jury trials. He has tried over a dozen criminal jury trials and dozens of criminal bench trials. As a licensed attorney in Federal Court, he has also represented many clients in federal criminal cases.

In Immigration Law, Black has extensive experience with consular processing cases, affirmative and defensive asylum cases, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), U Visas, cancellation of removal, adjustment of status, naturalization, and Special Immigrant Juvenile (SIJ) cases, among other immigration cases. He is one of the few SIJ specialists in Utah and regularly represents clients in Immigration Court and before USCIS. His dedication to providing high-quality legal representation reflects his passion for helping people navigate complex legal challenges.

Fluent in Spanish, Black was born and raised in Salt Lake City. After high school, he spent two years in Chile as a church service missionary before earning a finance degree from the University of Utah. He then worked as an accountant and played rugby for the university. Following his undergraduate studies, he joined the Peace Corps, volunteering for two years in central Mexico, focusing on small business development and ecotourism.

Black remains actively involved in his community, frequently volunteering at the University of Utah’s monthly Pro Bono Community Clinics. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, snow and water skiing, playing tennis, golf, and basketball, and attending University of Utah football games.
